This is an addendum to the Quality Assurance Project Plan for the 2019 sampling effort by the Washington State Department of Ecology Freshwater Fish Contaminant Monitoring Program (FFCMP). The focus of this sampling is the mainstem Snake River in Washington.
The goal of this 2019 sampling is to characterize the extent and magnitude of contaminants in fish within the mainstem Snake River. Results will be used to evaluate temporal trends in fish contaminant levels and to inform resource managers about potential risks to human health from eating contaminated fish.
Previous studies and associated data were reviewed in order to guide the development of this sampling plan. Contaminants assessed in fish from previous studies were mainly CPs (chlorinated pesticides) and PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). Other contaminants were examined less frequently, such as PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers), PCDD/Fs (polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and -furans), and mercury.
