Description Ecology’s Freshwater Fish Contaminant Monitoring Program has been characterizing PBTs in freshwater fish throughout Washington since 2001. Target analytes include mercury, PCBs, chlorinated pesticides, PBDE flame retardants, and dioxins/furans.

This document is an update to the 2013 programmatic Quality Assurance Project Plan and describes the framework for monitoring in the coming years. Annual addenda to this plan will address site-specific objectives for each year.
Goals of this program are to:

• Conduct exploratory monitoring to characterize the extent of toxics contamination in freshwater fish from areas that have not been sampled or where relevant data are greater than ten years old.

• Conduct long-term trend monitoring of toxic contaminants in freshwater fish at selected areas in order to track changes over time.
