Description |
This document describes the 2021 sampling plan for the Department of Ecology’s Freshwater Fish Contaminant Monitoring Program (FFCMP) and is an addendum to the program Quality Assurance Project Plan. The focus of the 2021 sampling is Lake Chelan.
The goal of the 2021 sampling is to characterize the extent and magnitude of contaminants in lake trout from Lake Chelan. Results will be compared to concentrations found in the 2003 and 2010 studies and will inform resource managers about potential risks to human health from eating contaminated fish.
Contaminants to be measured include those from previous studies, such as chlorinated pesticides — especially DDT and its breakdown products, PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers), PCDD/Fs (polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and -furans), and mercury. Analysis of fish tissue will also include PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) and arsenic species.
