Alfys Pizza Container
Cleanup Status
This Site was terminated from the Voluntary Cleanup Program in March 2024. Ecology issued a Further Action letter in April 2023.
Site Location
Site History
The former gasoline station consisted of an auto repair building, a gasoline station building, a pump island, and three underground storage tanks. Two underground storage tanks were removed before November 2021 (one waste oil and one fuel oil). The third underground storage tank (unknown contents) was removed in December 2021.
Information regarding the underground storage tank decommissioning, including tank sizes, and conditions are unknown.
Where Did The Contamination Come From?
Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in soil and shallow groundwater are from the past operation of a gasoline service station historically located on the Property.
Underground Storage Tank Removal
- One underground storage tank was removed in December 2021.
- 2,000 tons of petroleum-contaminated soil were removed from the Site.
- Soil samples collected from the underground storage tank excavation contained petroleum hydrocarbons above clean up levels.
- The underground storage tank excavation was backfilled with imported fill.
- Contaminated soil remains on the Property in the area of the former underground storage tank.
Post-Underground Storage Tank Removal Groundwater Investigation
In March 2022, the following activities occurred:
- Six groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-6) were installed on the Property.
- Soil samples collected from two monitoring wells at approximately 9 feet below the ground surface contained petroleum hydrocarbons just below cleanup levels.
- Groundwater samples collected from two monitoring wells contained petroleum hydrocarbons above cleanup levels.
Contaminants Of Concern
The contaminants of concern discovered on the Property are:
Soil
- Total petroleum hydrocarbons in the gasoline, diesel, and oil ranges (TPH-G, TPH-D, and TPH-O)
- Benzene and total xylenes
- Carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (cPAHs)
Groundwater
- Total petroleum hydrocarbons in the gasoline, diesel, and oil ranges (TPH-G, TPH-D, and TPH-O)
- Benzene
- Carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (cPAHs)
