Supplementary Cleanup
The recent groundwater compliance monitoring report (PSE Environmental Inc., 2015) confirms cleanup action at the Pace National Site (Site) for the fourth consecutive event. These results show no contamination in the groundwater. The fourth groundwater monitoring event was completed in November 2015.
The former Pace National site, now owned by SRMKII LLC volunteered to conduct supplemental cleanup tasks at this site. Ultra Corporation for Pace National had completed the Consent Decree cleanup actions and was conducting the compliance monitoring to confirm cleanup was achieved. Now SRMKII’s consultants PES Environmental Inc have begun additional cleanup tasks voluntarily. The supplemental cleanup tasks by SRM are voluntary and not required by Washington State cleanup regulations. SRM removed soils with detection of chemicals below state cleanup level. These soils are called "grey soils". After the excavation of the grey soils, PES retested to confirm all grey soils had been removed from the site. These actions are providing additional benefits to the Kirkland community and environment.

Site Description
The Ultra Corporation site, referred as Pace National Corporation facility, the former Pace National site represents a five acre property in a mixed commercial and residential neighborhood. The Site is located approximately 0.5 mile south of downtown Kirkland. The new office building (building photo to the left) shows completion of construction and successful cleanup of the former Pace National Site.
The site was converted to commercial/industrial applications in the early 1960s. Pace National purchased the site in 1969 and operated a specialty chemical mixing and packaging facility on the northern portion of the site from 1970 to 1990. It had 14 underground storage tanks that contained regulated and unregulated substances such as alcohols, oils, petroleum, and proprietary mixtures. This business ended 1990 and then the site was used as retail storage until 2006. The Pace building was demolished in 2006 for additional excavation and source removal.
In the early 1990s soil contamination was identified. Pace National and their consultants have conducted extensive soil and groundwater testing and investigations, interim cleanup actions and pilot testing for effective cleanup methods.
In 2008, Pace National and Ecology signed an Agreed Order to complete remedial investigations, prepare a feasibility study to evaluate cleanup action alternatives, and prepare the cleanup action plan.

Ecology and Ultra Corporation negotated a new legal agreement called a Consent Decree to implement the proposed Cleanup Action Plan. Compliance Monitoring has confirmed that this site has achieved all the cleanup actions under the Consent Decree and state cleanup regulations. The Consent Decree was amended in 2013 to add the new Site purchaser - SRMKII, LLC.
