BLT Trucking
Facility Site ID:
60800
Cleanup Site ID:
16551
Site Location
The BLT Trucking property was historically a part of a larger 2-acre parcel that included the BLT Trucking parcel (parcel number 000660-0045, approximately 1.3 acres) and the adjacent parcel to the east, Alki Fence (parcel number 000660-0040, approximately 0.45-acre). The original 2-acre property was operated by Atomic Auto Wrecking from approximately 1980 to the early 1990s.
Site Background
After Atomic Auto Wrecking stopped operations, the site was used for local illegal dumping. The property to the east (parcel 000660-0040) was listed as a contaminated site (CSID 2670) by Ecology under the Site name Atomic Auto Wrecking in 1996.
The Atomic Auto Wrecking Site was subsequently cleaned up under Ecology’s Voluntary Cleanup Program. A No Further Action letter was issued in March 2000.
The BLT Trucking parcel remained undeveloped until 2015 when the BLT Trucking facility was built. The building includes an 8,000 square foot office and truck maintenance building surrounded by asphalt parking. BLT Transport LLC operates the trucking and transport business which involves the dispatch, staging and servicing of transportation trucks.
Subsurface investigations were conducted on the BLT Trucking property in 2016 and 2022. The Site was entered in the Voluntary Cleanup Program (NW3338) in February 2022.

Where Did The Contamination Come From?
Contamination on the Site is related to past operations as an auto wrecking facility including storage of engines, gasoline tanks, transmissions, and batteries. The property was also used for illegal localized dumping prior to redevelopment in 2015 which may have also contributed to the contamination.
Contaminants Of Concern
Arsenic in soil and groundwater.
Model Toxics Control Act
The Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) is Washington’s environmental cleanup law. It provides requirements for contaminated site cleanup and sets standards that protect human health and the environment. Ecology enacts the MTCA and oversees cleanups.
The MTCA site cleanup process is completed in steps over a variable timeline.
