Ecology held a public comment period from Nov. 22 - Dec. 23, 2019 to delist the Site from the Hazardous Sites List. The Site has been removed from the Hazardous Sites List, Confirmed and Suspected Contaminated Sites List, and Leaking Underground Storage Tanks List.

The Site is located at 2101 Burwell Pl, Bremerton, WA 98312. The Site operated as a taxi cab parking and fueling facility from the 1940s until 1961, a used car lot until 2012, and thereafter as a recreational vehicle sales and service company. Contaminated soil was discovered in 2010 during removal of four underground storage tanks (USTs). In cooperation with Ecology, the Kitsap Public Health District (KPHD) completed a Site Hazard Assessment, resulting in a rank of 5 on a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 represents the highest risk and 5 the lowest risk. This ranking estimates the potential threat to human health and the environment relative to other sites in Washington State.  The Site was added to the HSL in February 2013.

The Site entered the Ecology Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) in September 2013.  Interim cleanup actions had been completed during removal of three gasoline USTs and one waste oil UST from the site in 2010, when approximately 54 cubic yards (76 tons) of petroleum contaminated soil were removed and disposed at a permitted off-site facility.  Soil samples collected from the excavations and soil borings from 2010 through 2019 confirmed that petroleum concentrations in soils remaining at the site are below Method A cleanup levels.  Site characterization reports also documented that groundwater was not affected by site contamination. Ecology has determined that the Site cleanup actions meet state cleanup standards.

Voluntary Cleanup Program

This site was cleaned up under our Voluntary Cleanup Program, which provides technical help to owners of contaminated sites.

Voluntary Cleanup Program customers pay fees to cover our costs for technical help and reviewing cleanup reports. Sites in this program must meet the same cleanup standards as the sites Ecology manages under legal orders.
