Site Background
The MJMG Group cleanup site is currently a gas station, convenience store, automobile service station, and espresso stand.
Leaking underground tanks that stored gasoline led to soil and groundwater contamination with petroleum-related compounds. Soil and groundwater were both contaminated with gasoline range total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-G), benzene, and total xylenes, which can be harmful to human and ecological health.
To ensure safety of people and the environment, cleanup was confirmed under Ecology’s Voluntary Cleanup Program. Cleanup activities included:

To ensure safety of people and the environment, cleanup was confirmed under Ecology’s Voluntary Cleanup Program. Cleanup activities included:
- Testing soil and groundwater to establish the extent and nature of the contamination.
- Removing and treating over 290,000 gallons of groundwater.
- Excavating, stockpiling, and disposing of approximately 250 cubic yards of contaminated soil.
- Testing soil and groundwater for petroleum contamination to verify the success of cleanup.
Voluntary Cleanup Program
This site was cleaned up under our Voluntary Cleanup Program, which provides technical help to owners of contaminated sites.
Voluntary Cleanup Program customers pay fees to cover our costs for technical help and reviewing cleanup reports. Sites in this program must meet the same cleanup standards as the sites Ecology manages under legal orders.
