The Site has been cleaned up. Cleanup of this site includes a Restrictive Covenant intended to prevent exposures to remaining contamination.
The 2025 Periodic Review concluded that the remedy may not be adequately protective of human health and the environment. The complete findings and conclusions of the periodic review are provided in the Weyerhaeuser Everett West - Periodic Review report from June 2025.

Site Description
The Weyerhaeuser Everett West Site is approximately 35 acres of land located at 101 East Marine View Drive, Everett, Washington 98201. Weyerhaeuser manufactured wood products at the Site from 1914 until mid-1980s. Contamination associated with former activities on the Site has been cleaned up. A site use restriction called institutional controls was implemented as part of the cleanup. An Environmental Covenant has been placed on the Site because some contamination was contained on the Site.
The Environmental Covenant was recorded with the Snohomish County Recording Office in 1995. The covenant prohibits activities that may result in the release or exposure of contaminants that remain on the property (such as excavation or redevelopment) and prohibits any use of the property that is inconsistent with the covenant, unless Ecology's approval is obtained in advance. The covenant also requires notification to Ecology if someone considers purchasing the property.

Site use restrictions called institutional controls are in effect
Institutional controls can be fences, signs, or restrictions on how the property is used. For instance, an institutional control may prohibit installing drinking water wells or disturbing a protective cap that isolates contamination. These restrictions keep the contamination contained and keep people from being exposed to the contamination. The controls are usually listed in environmental covenants recorded with the county.
Periodic reviews are required when institutional controls are required at a site. Ecology conducts reviews to make sure the controls remain effective and the cleanup still protects human health and the environment. We conduct periodic reviews about every five years.
